The Rotary Club of Briarcliff Manor has launched a fresh health initiative to to raise health awareness and encourage self-sufficiency: cultivating a “Health Garden“ to grow organic fresh vegetables. The project, launched at The Atria on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2 p.m., involved the cooperative effort of three generations of Briarcliff residents through Rotary, Interact, and ElderAct.
 
 
Doris Benson has received an award from her Club, RC Bronxville, for her and Bob Benson's Project in Zambia. Exchanging bee keeping as a way to live in lieu of big game poaching. (The glass object is a honey jar.)

The Northeast Westchester Rotary (NEW Rotary) presented $1,000 scholarships to three local talented high school graduates in recognition of service to their communities.
 
 
Somers, NY, July 21, 2015 - The Rotary Club of Northeast Westchester recently donated $1,800 to benefit ShelterBox, a humanitarian relief charity that assists survivors of disaster and humanitarian crises around the globe.

“The members of more than 33,000 Rotary Clubs around the world place value in service above self,” said Stan Herz Pearlman, President of the Rotary Club of Northeast Westchester. “We have a commitment to helping others in need.”
 
 
Susanne Gellert of Wall Street Rotary paid a visit to the Bernard Nordkamp Center, Namibia to follow up on a donation made to them through the generosity of Fellow Rotarians and her own initiative.

Educational Toys Allay Fears
Sunday March 1st saw an unusual get-together. Fredlee Ann Kaplan of Gift of Life International along with members of The UN Rotaract Club and of Rotary Club of New York met to create medical play dolls for hospitalized children in GOLI's Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Program in El Salvador.
 
 
Twelve year-old Lei Francene Nuguid Vitug of the Philippines, born with a facial cleft, approached the Rotary Club of Mabalacut for help. Together with help from RC Cortlandt Manor, Lei will be having corrective surgeries this coming March. RC Mabalacut is happy that Lei’s surgery is moving forward and thanks go out to sister Club RC Cortlandt Manor  for help with this Rotaplast project.
 
 
Honors to the NYPD and a Special Hero
On March 12 the Rotary Club of New York celebrated Police Recognition Day for the 46th year. We honored Police Officer Rosa Rodriguez, this year's hero, with a plaque and were given an overview on the NYPD and the latest task forces and technologies by Assistant Police Chief Terrence Monahan. RCNY also presented a Grant check to the NYPD Foundation to Asst. Chief Monahan.
 
 
On Jan 23, Briarcliff Manor Rotary hosted speaker Marion Anderson, Exec. Dir. of Heartsong. Heartsong uses music and the other arts to help children with Autism & Down's Syndrome and the elderly with debilitating ailments. The presentation was so inspirational that Briarcliff Manor Rotary presented a donation check on the spot.
 
 

Each year, Staten Island business leaders are recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Staten Island community, through the Louis R. Miller Business Leadership Awards -- co-sponsored by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the Staten Island Advance.

Grymes Hill resident Bernard Del Rey, founder and partner of Del Rey & Company, CPAs, LLP, in New Dorp, is one of eight business leaders being honored this year.

 
 
We regret to report the passing of Bob Benson. Bob and Doris Benson were very much involved with making a 'difference in the world.' Together they spearheaded the Comaco project in Africa for the Bronxville Rotary Club. As a tribute to Bob, and of course to Doris you can view a video of their work.
