SandysChartered 1972Area 9
Sandys Rotary Club was formed in 1972 and prided itself on being a club of “movers and shakers”. In the past, we’ve done some large fund raising events and are looking forward to doing more. The members are an interesting mix of “old timers” and a bunch of new members who can’t help but bring the club into 21st Century with their enthusiasm. We usually conduct three meetings on Wednesday nights at Henry VIII. There's the pre-meeting meeting in the bar, the regular meeting upstairs with dinner, and then the post-meeting meeting back in the bar where we conduct our other business, discussing our projects and fund raisers. We usually have a guest speaker (except for Club Assembly once a month). Our camaraderie is legendary and we have a fun time conducting our Rotary business. The cost of the meal is $42.00, but the bar bills can be astronomic! If you're in the neighborhood, we strongly encourage you to join in our fun and camaraderie.

We are a small club but we get a lot done. We have two annual projects: 1) a coat and sweater drive that collects literally tons of outerwear every year that we redistribute to the needy; and 2) a literary project called "On My Mind," a professional-grade book that showcases the best student writing from selected area high schools. We also did an international water project in 2007-2008, coordinating efforts of several area clubs to build a Cornell-designed water purification system that provides clean water to an entire village in Honduras. Our meeting features a buffet dinner for $20.00. If you are ever in the area, please set aside some time to join us.

The Rotary Club of Staten Island represents most of the business, professional and institutional activities in the communities of Staten Island. In 1962, the Club established its own charitable foundation, known as the Staten Island Rotary Foundation (SIRF) to perpetuate the ideals of Rotary through gifts, devises or gifts of money or property that may be made to the Club for educational, charitable or other philanthropic purposes. An aggressive fund raising activity started with the advent of the Rotary International Polio Plus program and followed with a successful series of Bowl-A-Thons; and continues with the present Auto Raffle that has achieved record fund raising levels.

In January, 2010 the club relocated into the center of Harlem on 117th St and 5th Ave. in a very attractive restaurant and experienced a rebirth with a sharp increase in membership. YorktownChartered 1949Area 1
The Rotary Club of Yorktown was established in 1949 through the sponsorship of the Peekskill Rotary Club. In 2010 we celebrate our 60th Anniversary. Our locale is at the Top of Westchester, which just so happens to be the name of our weekly newsletter. Our present membership is 26 active Rotarians. In the next month or so, we will be contemplating additional members and hope to reach our goal of 30 members by the end of this Rotary year. Our speakers are from very diverse backgrounds, and attract Rotarians and guests. We have developed wonderful relationships with members of other Rotary clubs, and it's not unusual to have them attend our meetings, as well as visiting with them in their clubs. We call ourselves the traveling Rotary Club. Our main fund raiser, The "Hole-in-One" Golf Contest, in October allows us to make significant contributions to the community and international projects. The Rotary Club of Yorktown has a history of involvement at the district level and we are very proud to have one of our own nominated to District Governor in 2012.
