Through involvement in the local fire department, auxiliary police department, and as a principal of Sunday School, DGND Syed Alirahi has committed to acts of service and impactful leadership. Over the last ten years, as a dedicated member of Rotary International, community service has played an important role in his life.The 2022 District Nominating Committee selected Rotarian Syed as the District Governor for 2024-25. Following the period of Challenge, during which no valid challenge was received, District Governor George McKinnis officially declared Syed as the District's selection for District Governor for the Rotary year 2024-25. He will therefore be the District Governor Nominee-Designate (DGND) for the current year. On 1 July 2022, he will become the District Governor Nominee (DGN), becoming the District Governor-Elect on 1 July 2023 and taking over as the District Governor on 1 July 2024.
DGND Syed is the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Westchester which came into being in November 2021. As President he directed the Club's service events, trained new Rotarians, and helped boost membership in the District. He participated in his Club's International service projects in the Dominican Republic and in Pakistan.
Joining the Elmsford Rotary Club in 2012, Syed served as the Club's Membership Chair and International Service Chair becoming Club President in 2016-17.
At the District level, Syed was the District Membership Chair in 2015-16 and 2016-17 and Assistant Governor during 2019-20
Within his community Syed was the Chief of Elmsford Volunteer Fire Department in 2019 and Lieutenant in the Greenburgh Auxiliary Police Department.
He is Principal of the ISWR Sunday School and a member of the Hispanic Relations Association.

Syed lives Rotary - his wife Shazia and 5 daughters Sadia, Nadia, Ayesha, Asma and Amber are all members of the Westchester Rotary Club.
