PDG Marilyn Masiero Passes Away
The District is saddened at the passing away of our Past District Governor Marilyn Masiero.  She served as District Governor in 2015-16.
 
Marilyn Masiero was invited to join the Sarasota Bay Rotary Club in 1994. She was immediately assigned to various committees and was recognized as having leadership potential and moved forward by serving as Chair of each of the Four Avenues of Service. She served as District 6960 Youth Exchange Co–chair, member of the Board of Directors, and served as the Foundation Director of SBRC and President (2003–2004). She became a proud member of the Paul Harris Society in 1998, aand later, a member of the Bequest Society, a Major Donor and a member of the Arch Klumph Society.

Upon retirement, Marilyn returned to New York where she transferred to the Rotary Club of Larchmont. Marilyn decided to “Lend a Hand” (the RI President’s theme from her first presidency). She “jumped right in” and served in various capacities and was elected Club President (2010–2011), and Assistant Governor (2010–2013). She served on the District Training Committee (2011–2014) and as Chair of the Grants Subcommittee (2011–2012). She has been a facilitator for Mid-Northeast Multi-District PETS.

Marilyn worked in a variety of fields: textile designer, teacher, art therapist and counselor. She received her B.S. and M.A. in Developmental Psychology and Education from NYU, and an M.S. in Art Therapy from the College of New Rochelle. While in school, Marilyn was a member of the NYU fencing team. In 1977,  the recipient of the Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association Founder’s Medal for Meritorious Service. She was also named Woman of the Year by the New York YMCA. In 1990 she received the Catherine Haag Outstanding Graduate Student award for her humanitarian efforts from the College of New Rochelle.

In her spare time, Marilyn liked to visit museums and art galleries, travel to World Fencing Championships, Olympics and RI conventions.
 
Viewing is on Friday February 22nd, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Yannantuono Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Ave., Mt. Vernon, NY.    A Mass will be held Saturday, February 23rd at 9:45 a.m. at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery Chapel in Valhalla, NY.  This will be followed by her burial.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of PDG Marilyn Masiero to the Rotary International Foundation.
